NOTE:
There is little on the Internet concerning the History of
Nevada's Bordellos. This part of this site is incomplete, and will
be added to as time goes on. If anyone has anything they would
like to contribute, photos, information, etc, please contact us.
Most of those who visit Las Vegas, or move here from various parts of the country, are
told to go to Pahrump if they are interested in visiting a bordello. Even though
prostitution is legal in Nye County, one would have to go to Crystal, 27 miles north of
Pahrump to find such infamous brothels as the Cherry Patch Ranch, Madam Butterfly's,
(which is not really a brothel), and Mabels.
The Cherry patch offers a Brothel Artwork
Museum. However, it is a museum of a different sort. Don't expect ornate or unusual
pieces of some forgotten collection. Don't look for elaborate works of art, or
valuable keepsakes. One will find however, walls covered with newspaper clippings of the
various political and social actions between the brothel industry and the public, amid
other favorite clipped stories collected over the years.
One will find friendly, smiling faces and
perhaps a local or two sitting at the bar sipping on a cold one. There is a skeleton
in a glass case just inside to the right. It's reported to be the remains of an unknown
prostitute, dubbed "Agnes" by locals. It's rumored that she was caught stealing,
hence the lack of hands. It is further rumored that her remains were found behind a wall
during a reconstruction of one of the buildings. However none of these facts were
supported by anything more than hearsay. There's a moose head on one wall, and a glass
case displaying brothel souvenirs just inside the door. Take a peek
inside here.
The "museum" is separate from the
brothel, and open to visitors. An interesting place to stop to have a beer and read the
old newspapers plastered on the wall.
I am proud to say that I have donated a piece
of art to the Cherry Patch Brothel Museum. As part of a computer imaging class
I was taking at CCSN, I made a mock magazine cover
and they have allowed me to have it forever displayed on their wall.

This sign has also been replaced due to heavy winds.

On the historical side of Brothels & Bordellos, these items
were known as Brass Checks
and were good for credit in many of the establishments throughout the west.
